Touched by God’s Grace

By Dorathy, Nigeria

Six years ago, my husband became a member of Eckankar. At the time, I had mixed feelings about this. The ECK teachings were unfamiliar to me, and I wondered about the value of singing HU as a prayer of love to God.

But I also love and trust my husband. So I went with him to ECK events to understand more about this religion.

I discovered that the ECK teachings were about God’s divine love for us as Soul. I learned that singing HU opens the doorway for a deeper connection with the Holy Spirit and draws us closer to God. I also learned about the constant presence and love of the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master, Sri Harold Klemp. In his inner form, the Mahanta is always with students of ECK to help them on their journey home to God.

But I was still not convinced the ECK teachings were for me. Without having any personal experiences of my own, I had difficulty accepting them as true.

Then something happened to change my point of view. Read More

For Creative Inspiration

Shariyat SpirEX Bk1_CoverBy Harold Klemp

“If man is to survive in the physical universe, then he must find time for creative activity in spiritual things. Until this comes about, within a group with time to do something besides subsist in the materialistic worlds, there is little opportunity for the spiritual sensitivity of man to develop.”

—Shariyat-Ki-Sugmad, Bk 1, pp. 183–84

Is there a goal or a project you would like to take the next step with? Picture this clearly in your Spiritual Eye.

With eyes open or shut, chant the word ghata for several minutes. It’s an ECK word for the act of opening the consciousness. After a minute or so of silence, return to chanting the word and going into silence, until you have repeated this pattern three times.

Inspiration may come during this exercise or during the day as the word draws new vibrations into your awareness.

Choosing Love over Anger

ECKANKAR, Love, AngerBy Harold Klemp

A woman worked with a person who seemed to take great pleasure in insulting her.  Some people in this world form friendships by making fun of their friends.  It’s a strange thing.

One day this woman went to a restaurant with her coworkers.  The man began to insult the ECKist in a friendly way.  She decided she couldn’t take any more.  Normally she’s a quiet, soft-spoken person who hardly ever shows anger.  But this time she flared up.

“If you couldn’t insult me,” she said to the man, “you wouldn’t be able to think of one thing to say.”  The man was shocked.  She got really angry and kept at him, talking louder and louder until people in the restaurant began looking around to see who was causing such a scene.

After the man and his wife had left, the ECKist stood with her husband and a friend out in the parking lot.  “You were right to defend yourself,” the friend said.  “If he can dish it out, he better be able to take it.”

“You’re a saint to have been able to put up with him all these years,” added the husband.  Read More

Eckankar is a “Go-to Religion”

ECK-logo-low-rez-from-FBBy Pier, Florida

My car died in the driveway. My car is everything to me, of course my only means of getting around. I am low on money as well.

It was towed to the local mechanic shop. They quoted me $1,700! And that wouldn’t take care of all the problems. While I was getting this bad news, a computer guy was working on my computer. He overheard me and said, “I used to work in a body shop and that is an outrageous price. You should get a second opinion.”

I thought, What a good idea. I decided to call around and most of the shops were closed on Saturday. Then the Mahanta gave me an idea, “Call the guy who sold you the car six years ago.” Read More

What the Master Offers

ECKANKAR, Harold KlempBy Harold Klemp

Q: You have spoken about being a holding tank for our karma, to the point where it makes you physically sick.  Also, your wife, Joan, wrote about the unique value of the Master to the chela.

In a culture imbued with the tradition of messianism, it’s hard to imagine what may lie beyond the concept of a savior who needs to sacrifice himself to save mankind.  What are some of the differences between the role of a savior and the way the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master helps people with their karma?

A: Faith and belief are based on feelings instead of reason.  So it’s pointless to argue with someone of another religion about the validity of Eckankar over his beliefs.

This being so, it greatly simplifies the matter for us.  We do not wish to convince anyone about anything. Read More

What Is a Spiritual Exercise?

ECKANKAR, Prayer, Soul Travel, God, SoulSimilar to prayer, these spiritual exercises help you open your heart to Divine Spirit, the Light and Sound of God.  ECKANKAR teaches over one hundred different exercises, all designed to give you a greater understanding of yourself and of God.  They can be practiced privately and at your own pace.  Success at Soul Travel is not dependent on any special diets, customs, or ascetic practices.  It is truly a natural ability.

Many people experience Soul Travel as an expansion of awareness and knowingness: an inner nudge to call a friend or seeing beyond their difficulties to a deeper meaning.  Others may have dramatic experiences full of spiritual majesty.  In ECKANKAR you can learn to prove spiritual truths to yourself through your own experiences.

My Father’s Farewell

By Lillian, Mexico

My father had been brought up as an orthodox Jew, and although he was a very spiritual man, he was wary of the spiritual path I’d chosen for myself. Eckankar seemed foreign and unfamiliar to him.

But as I began to practice the Spiritual Exercises of ECK, my father immediately realized something was different about me. He also noticed that when I returned from an Eckankar seminar I was filled with more light and love.

“Whatever you’re doing,” he said, “it must be good.” Read More

How to Remember and Interpret Your Dreams

How to Remember and Interpret Your DreamsBy Harold Klemp

One of the reasons I recommend keeping a dream journal is that if these inner experiences are not recorded when they happen, most of them will be forgotten.  Even if an experience doesn’t seem to mean much now, at some point in the future you might look back at it and recognize its spiritual significance.

Another benefit to recording your dreams is that as you study and check your dream journal, you’re going to find that you remember your dreams better and better.

One of the ways to begin working out the inner tangles and knots, where the communication lines between the higher worlds and the physical have been twisted, is to work with the dream journal.  And as you write, you will find that the tension in your stomach goes away.  If the dream journal can help to do this, it’s done something. Life Is a Gift

ECKANKAR, Soul, Resposibilty, SuicideBy Harold Klemp

Q: On this journey home to God, we are sometimes faced with painful experiences.  During these times, some people make the choice to end their lives.  What is the spiritual lesson and responsibility in making that choice?

A: Life often is pain.  If not physical pain, then surely emotional or mental dis-ease of some sort.  Earth is God’s boot camp for Souls.

People who take their lives are to be pitied only because they threw away on a whim the divine blessing of this life.  In Christianity, it would be a final tragedy.  The reason is that its belief system admits but to a single human existence in eternity and to lightly gamble it away is to forever suffer eternal damnation.
