What Is True Prayer?

ECKANKAR, Prayer, Divine Spirit, Listetning, GodBy Harold Klemp

Correct prayer is listening to God.  If a person is going to err in prayer, it’s through too much telling or talking to God.  There’s nothing wrong with telling or asking; there’s nothing wrong with talking to God.  But after you’ve asked your question, listen.  Be quiet and listen.

Listening is true prayer, prayer of the highest sort.  Even prayer where you’re asking God something is of a high sort or it can be.  But sometimes people carry it to extremes.

When I was a child, my parents had us say our childhood prayers at bedtime.  As I grew up and went to divinity school, I would still say my prayers at night.  Not that those of us at divinity school were very righteous.  A very small percentage were truly pious, and the rest of us were about average.  We got along.  We knew God was there.  We did our lessons; we did our Bible study and science and math.  There were also those in divinity school who were quite nonpious. Awaken to Your Dreams

ECKANKAR, Love, Dreams, HealingDo you ever wake from a dream but can’t quite remember where you were?  Then an image may gently float in, or something sparks your memory.  Suddenly you recall a scene as real as the world in front of you.

Dreams are windows into worlds beyond the ordinary.  Some people have dreams that give them guidance about the smallest details of their daily life along with profound spiritual insights.  Others experience unconditional and transforming love in their dreams.

For example, a woman from the Midwest found such love in her dreams after her mother died.  The woman asked Divine Spirit for help with her grief.  In a series of dreams, she met with her mother.  As they visited together, the daughter was filled with the love they have for each other.  These dreams helped the woman deal with her sorrow. A Special Purpose for This Life

11C53_BZ_TheMomentBy Harold Klemp

Odd as it may seem, you had a special reason for coming into this lifetime.  It was to become a more godlike being, but most people do not realize this fact.  They assume that birth is a fancy of destiny.

All the lives you have ever lived were for the polishing of Soul.  Like it or not, you are now at a higher and more spiritual level than in any prior incarnation.  So look at yourself.  Do you like what you see?  Keep in mind, whatever it is, for better or worse, it’s of your own making.

You are the sum of all your thoughts, feelings, and actions from this life and every lifetime in the past. Read More

You Exist Because God Loves You

ECKANKAR, Youth, Love, RelationshipsBy Harold Klemp

Q: My grandmother passed away recently.  I need a way to not be sad yet always have her with me.  I don’t want to have to think about her passing away.  Can you write back to me about this?

A: In our home, Mother had a plaque on the wall that simply said, “Time heals all wounds.”  And it does.  It’s likely that you can see the same about your feelings now about your grandmother passing away several months ago. Read More

Where Fear Comes From

You've Lived Before, You'll Live AgainBy Harold Klemp

What is this life all about?  I would have to say it’s about fear and how to overcome it.

You have a job, you’re afraid of losing your job.  You have health, and you’re afraid of losing it.  Your child is sick, and you’re afraid your child won’t get any better.  Will you have enough to feed your family?  These are all fears.  The experience in this world seems to be total fear.

When fear is a dominant player in your life, it steals the joy and freedom of living.

Hidden fears—stacks and stacks, piles and piles of them—reside in each human being.  What is their origin?  Many fears developed before your birth into this lifetime.  Each human being carries a history of hundreds or thousands of past lives.  That allows plenty of time to hurt others.  And it also gives them a chance to hurt you.  Get hurt enough in a certain way, and you cringe from the mere thought of that sort of pain.

People are not born equal.  At birth each brings a unique load of karma. Read More

What’s Different about ECKANKAR?

ECKANKAR, Spiritual Path, Light, SoundBy Harold Klemp

Q: There are so many choices available to the seeker of truth today, including various teachings of the Light and Sound.  What makes Eckankar different?

A: There aren’t that many teachings about the Light and Sound.  There are a lot of teachings that know nothing about either the Light or the Sound as an important part of the spiritual path.

Christianity speaks about the Light in a number of places in the Scriptures.  For instance, Saul on the road to Damascus—that was the Light of God.  I don’t think Christianity understands the full importance of the Light of God.  And even those religions that do have both the Light and Sound of God may not fully understand the importance of having both of them as part of a viable spiritual path.

So, in ECK we teach that there is this balance of the two aspects so people can have the straightest, most direct, and most spiritually beneficial path to God.

What Happens after Death?

ECKANKAR, Truth, God, Light and SoundBy Harold Klemp

Q: What happens to us after death?

A: I’ll paint a picture of the afterlife with a broad brush.  The reason is that consciousness is like a river of water in that it goes gradually from a small stream to a larger one.

A composer, for example, uses a similar method.  When he wishes to move up, say, eleven notes from a starting note, he will work his way up in gradual steps rather than in one big leap.  He may go up two notes, drop back a half note, move up a full note, and so on, until he reaches the eleventh note he was aiming for.

These gradual movements from the smaller to the larger or the lower to the higher are to prevent a destructive or jarring effect upon the sensibilities of man or nature. Read More

Finding Your Own True Path to God

Wonder of WanderingBy Harold Klemp

Divine Spirit has provided many paths for Soul to take back to God.  Each path roughly fits the consciousness of a like-minded group.

That is why there is no reason to look down on any religious teaching.  The ECK Masters come to enliven, not destroy, religious teachings, because periodically the spiritual light dims. Read More
